The day after the massacre, TV4 News published a video clip from the event, filmed from inside a toilet at Risbergska, where someone is claimed to have shouted "you should get out of Europe" during the ongoing shooting.
According to TV4, they came to this conclusion by letting sound technicians filter the sound and then having "several people without prior knowledge" listen.
The information has spread widely, both in Sweden and in foreign media, but has also been criticized from several quarters.
Sound technicians question
In an open letter in Kvartal, ten experienced sound technicians question whether it is possible to hear what is being said on the recording.
"A professional and knowledgeable sound technician would not have said that it is possible to discern the meaning of the words spoken in the macabre video with any precision," they write.
TV4 News' responsible publisher Fredrick Malmberg says he is completely confident in the publication.
You should know that the two people we had analyze this are extremely experienced. They work with sound, it's their job to hear what people say and make technical solutions to make it sound better, he said on Saturday's Medierna i P1.
"Ill-affected"
The letter writers criticize Malmberg for implying that TV4 has access to special equipment and expertise that others do not, which they claim is not true.
"Many of us in our forum have instead become ill-affected by the fact that our professional skills and professional honor seem to be used as an alibi for irresponsible and sensationalist click journalism," they write.
TT has sought TV4.
In Dagens Media, Fredrick Malmberg comments on the criticism from the sound technicians:
At the core, this is a journalistic decision made based on a foundation that I have received. I also note that no one is saying that it's wrong, they just have objections to our method.
