It was both up and down on Asia's leading stock exchanges in early Tuesday trading.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the recent uptrend continued, with the Nikkei 225 index and the broader Topix index both rising by 1.7 and 1 percent, respectively, by lunchtime.
The composite indices in Shanghai and Shenzhen were both down 0.9 and 1.2 percent, respectively. The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was also down 0.3 percent.
