The US Congress voted on Wednesday for a temporary budget deferment to avoid a shutdown of federal institutions. The decisive decision is postponed until after the presidential and congressional elections on November 5.
Republicans in the House of Representatives had threatened to vote against the proposal to postpone decisive votes on the US federal budget, but changed their minds when they feared that the issue could create discontent among voters before and in the upcoming presidential and congressional elections on November 5.
The US fiscal year begins on Tuesday, but Congress must have approved new or increased expenditure items for these to be paid out. Through the decision in the House of Representatives, an obstacle has been removed.
The measure must be approved by the Senate, but Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer said that an agreement among members was essentially in place.
