At the same time as the supporters had begun to stream in to see Manchester City play a decisive Champions League match, they also saw the souvenir shop of the PL club's stand in flames.
The fire broke out in the western part of the arena. However, the fire department arrived quickly at the scene and had to work for a long time before the fire could be extinguished.
According to Manchester Evening News, no one was injured, but several entrances to the arena have been closed due to security risk.
"The safety of everyone who is going to the match tonight is our top priority, and therefore all events that have been planned in the 'West Stand' section have been cancelled, such as the welcome event for the new players and the players' entrance," the club writes on X.
The match is still intended to be held at the rescheduled kick-off time, 21.00. Manchester City must win to avoid being eliminated from the Champions League already after the group stage.
