China's Ministry of Commerce states that it wants to continue negotiating with the EU on tariffs on Chinese electric cars of up to 35 percent, which were introduced last week.
So far, no agreement is in place, according to the ministry, which urges the EU to send a technical delegation to China to take the negotiations further.
The announcement comes after China's Prime Minister Li Qiang met with the President of the European Council Charles Michel at a meeting in Laos this week.
The EU has justified the tariffs on Chinese electric cars by stating that China subsidizes its oversized car manufacturers, giving them competitive advantages over European car manufacturers.
China has threatened the EU with countermeasures targeting European goods, such as agricultural products and heavy trucks.
Chinese car brands currently account for around 8 percent of the European electric car market.
