The move comes after the US President-elect Donald Trump said that existing tariffs on all goods from China will be increased by 10 percent.
"Economic cooperation and trade cooperation are mutually beneficial by nature," says Chinese Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu in a statement.
"No one will win a trade war or a tariff war," says Liu.
Trump also announced during the night that he will decide on tariffs of 25 percent on all goods from neighboring countries Mexico and Canada on his first day in the White House.
According to Trump, the punitive tariffs against the three countries will remain in place until they ensure that they stop the illegal flow of narcotics to the US, as well as prevent undocumented migrants from crossing the border.
"Canada is crucial for the US's domestic energy supply, and last year, 60 percent of the US's oil imports came from Canada," says Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland in a statement.
She also emphasizes that Canada has a close and strong cooperation with the US along the shared border.
