The New York stock exchange fell on Tuesday, weighed down above all by declines in some of the IT giants.

The broad S&P 500 index lost 0.6 percent and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 1.5 percent, while the Dow Jones industrial index closed unchanged.

The chip company Nvidia, the world's highest valued company, fell 3.5 percent. The AI software company Palantir, which earlier this year rose sharply, plummeted 9.4 percent.

Against the trend went the building materials retailer Home Depot. The company reported an interim report that did not reach the analysts' forecasts, but the company's sales increased during the last three-month period and for the full year they expect the profit forecast to hold. The share rose 3.2 percent.
