Lithuanian authorities have decided to donate seized cars from drunk drivers to Ukraine.
About 1,500 cars have been sent to the Ukrainian military so far. Before departure, several of them have been repaired and adapted for the front line in the war, for example, with additional armor or converted into ambulances.
In the past, drunk driving could lead to fines in the country at most, but since 2022, drunk drivers can also be sentenced to prison – and have their cars confiscated. Since the introduction of the new law, seized cars have taken up large spaces at the country's police stations, which has led to the Lithuanian government's somewhat unconventional way of solving the problem.
