A water buffalo on the loose was hit by a car on Gotland in the afternoon and was so severely injured that it had to be put down, reports P4 Gotland.
The accident occurred on county road 140 in Silte after two steers (castrated bull calves) were driven out of their enclosure by an angry water buffalo bull.
The car driver, who collided with one of the water buffaloes with great force, escaped unharmed but the car suffered severe body damage.
According to the owner of the water buffaloes, Karin Yxfeldt, the hit steer weighed around 500 kilos and it was dark at the time of the accident.
Water buffaloes are black, so they were completely impossible to see, she says to P4 Gotland.
