Brynäs won the home premiere: "Special evening"

SHL hockey in Gävle for the first time in over a year and a half. Then it was a 5-3 win for comebacking newcomer Brynäs against Frölunda. It felt a little extra thrilling because it wasn't an ordinary match. But what a way we ended it, it became a special evening, says Brynäs star Jakob Silfverberg.

The home premiere was long-awaited, after a year in Hockey Allsvenskan and the fans got to create the atmosphere before the face-off with loud singing and tifo around the entire arena.

A pressure more intense than NHL-returnee Silfverberg had expected:

I had heard rumors that it might be something special, but like this, oh, it was goosebumps and I got completely shaky hands. It was special, he says with a broad smile and continues:

The pulse was high, up in the roof. You're so eager to get started but your head isn't quite there. It felt like your head was spinning, it was like a blurry vision, but then you calmed down and we worked ourselves into the game.

That there were many emotions in play may explain why Brynäs gave away a whole series of turnovers in both the first and second periods, mistakes that Frölunda's Mikael Ruohomaa and Linus Weissbach took advantage of at 0–1 in the first period and 0–2 in the second.

The Star Behind the Turnaround

But in the third period, the home fans also got to cheer when Jakob Silfverberg, in a chaotic situation, managed to stretch out his arm and stick and push in 1–2 lying on the ice amidst a crowd of players.

"Oh, ah, say oh, ah, Silfverberg" then rolled around the stands at deafening volume.

And just 1.10 after the reduction came the equalizer after Silfverberg precision-played the puck to Miks Indrasis at one post.

19-year-old Brynäs forward Anton Ohlsson decided the match with his 3–2 goal. In the end, Brynäs won 5–3.

Nice to get a home win in the bag, now it's just a matter of grinding on, says Ohlsson.

"Cool to Play with Jakob"

Twelve years ago, he stood as a 7.5-year-old on the standing room and screamed out his joy when Brynäs took the Swedish Championship gold in 2012 with Jakob Silfverberg at the helm.

It's cool to play with Jakob, a player you've looked up to since you were little. It's cool to be around him. Jakob gives tips and tricks, helps everyone, talks a lot, and is a really good leader, says the young goal-scorer, and gets praise back from Silfverberg:

Incredibly fun (with the winning goal) for Anton. He's a player we'll get a lot of use out of considering his speed and skill.
