At least 100 people are missing after a boat capsized in the Niger River in northern Nigeria, according to authorities in the country.
The boat, with mainly women on board, was on its way from the state of Kogi to a food market in the neighboring country of Niger when it sank early on Friday morning.
What caused the accident has not been confirmed by the authorities. However, according to local media, over 200 people were on the boat, which suggests that it may have been overloaded.
A comprehensive rescue operation has been underway at the site on Friday. So far, at least eight people have been confirmed dead.
