The President of the USA, Joe Biden, has tested positive for covid-19. He is now forced to interrupt his campaigning in Las Vegas and has flown home to Delaware.
I'm fine, shouted the President and gave a thumbs up to reporters from his car as he was about to board the presidential plane in Las Vegas for the journey home.
According to the White House, he is covid-vaccinated and has received a booster dose. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre states that the President will isolate himself in his residence in Delaware and work fully with the responsibilities of a President.
Biden was in Las Vegas, Nevada, to meet Spanish-speaking voters and speak at a conference arranged by the organization Unidos.
The President's doctor, Kevin O'Connor, says in a statement that the President has a runny nose, cough, and feeling of illness and is receiving antiviral medication.
Biden has had covid infections several times, most recently in the summer of 2022, and the infection curves in the USA are now pointing upwards again.
In recent times, several high-ranking Democrats have urged Biden to withdraw his presidential candidacy, including with reference to his declining health.
