This year, the chance is less than usual to see a meteor from the Geminids since the moon is shining strongly on its way to Sunday's full moon. It is also expected to be cloudy with precipitation over large parts of Sweden.
The moonlight "will wash away many of them", says Sally Brummel, planetary chief at Bell Museum, University of Minnesota's natural history museum.
The Geminids are usually the best chance every year for earthlings to see meteors. The reason is partly that the meteor shower has a distinct yellow color, but also that it has a high frequency of meteors, up to 15 per hour, according to the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
