Several bananas in top hats have been put up on lamp posts in the Majorna district of Gothenburg, which has sparked speculation and amused many. The debate has been intense in social media, including local Facebook groups.
The person behind the artworks is still unknown, writes Göteborgs-Posten. But many have made the connection to Maurizio Cattelan's artwork "Comedian", a banana taped to a plate, which was sold for 5.2 million dollars by a crypto entrepreneur in November.
I think it's very obvious that it refers to that work in a pretty simple and easy way, says artist Jonathan "Ollio" Josefsson, who comments on the mysterious artwork for GP.
He likes the mysterious art exhibition and believes that street art has the potential to be humorous, but also serious and political.
The most well-known example is of course Banksy, and he works a lot with that humorous twist. And is bloody good too.
