Anger about the giant cheering section: "I tried to enjoy it"

A yellow wall, with hundreds of personal supporters, carried Edvin Anger to sixth place in the mile race in Falun. They gave me extra motivation to be able to maintain the tempo, said a visibly moved Anger after the competition.

Four buses plus many cars drove from Hedemora to Falun to support Edvin Anger.

They formed a cheering section of several hundred people, all wearing yellow jerseys, who gathered at the classic Mördarbacken. They became a sensation throughout the entire stadium area.

Several enthusiasts in Falun testify that no other individual skier in the history of skiing has had such a large personal cheering section as Edvin Anger had this Saturday.

That's probably true, confirmed a moved papa Fredrik Anger.

It's unreal, adds mama Ellinor Anger.

Ski Fever

They tell us that Edvin Anger's successes have created ski fever back home in Hedemora, despite him living in Östersund and competing for Åsarna IK.

The parents run their own stores in Hedemora. Papa has a sports store and mama a flower shop. Now they've got a new type of customers:

On Mondays and Tuesdays, many people come in and want to talk about skiing. It's really fun, says Fredrik Anger.

Edvin Anger's successes have also had an effect on the young people's interest in skiing:

We haven't had so many kids in the club in 30 years. Now there are between 40 and 50 young people training skiing, says Sofia Anger Hyttinen, ski leader in IFK Hedemora skiing. Her coaching colleague Martin Åkerman adds:

We see a clear Anger effect. When Edvin is home, he likes to ski with the young people and play with them. It's popular.

Moved Ski Star

The large cheering section in Falun affected Edvin Anger both before and after the race.

Normally, he's in his bubble during warm-up and doesn't look around. But now he did, says his papa and smiles.

Edvin Anger confirms that he was moved by the large cheering section:

I tried to enjoy it as much as possible. It was fantastic fun and it was extra fun that I got to do such a good race.

He also praises the cheering section.

This is big and it shows what I do means in Hedemora. What engagement has been created in this circus. I'm looking forward to the World Championship in Falun 2027. Then it's going to be a wild atmosphere.
