Tech giant Amazon is investing eight billion pounds, equivalent to around 108 billion kronor, in the UK over the next five years, the company announces.
The announcement is welcome news for the country's new Labour government, which has put economic growth at the center and promised to "rebuild" the country.
"This investment of eight billion pounds marks the start of the economic revival and shows that the UK is a place to do business", says Finance Minister Rachel Reeves in a statement.
The initiative – which involves building and operating data centers within the framework of the subsidiary Amazon Web Services – could mean more than 14,000 jobs annually across the entire supply chain, according to Amazon.
In recent months, Amazon Web Services has announced investments worth tens of billions of euros in Germany, Spain, and France.
