After the Arrest: Previous Victim Got Panic Attack

The Nytorgs man was convicted of assault and rape against 19 women. Now he is said to have been arrested for rape again – a piece of information that evokes feelings in the previous victims. My former client had a panic attack at work and is feeling incredibly poorly, says lawyer Paola Persson.

The man was arrested according to Sydsvenskan during the night against Wednesday, suspected of rape.

If it is true that the information is correct, it is a great tragedy, says the plaintiff's counsel Paola Persson.

During the trial, Paola Persson represented two women who the man was accused of raping. He was acquitted in both cases, but was convicted of 35 different crimes against 19 other women. The sentence was five years' imprisonment.

It is clear that it does not stand in proportion to the seriousness of his crimes, says Paola Persson.

She reminds us that the Prison and Probation Service decided on conditional release of the man after serving two-thirds of his sentence, despite the risk of him committing new sexual crimes being assessed as high.

The Prison and Probation Service explained in connection with the decision that they only followed applicable legislation.

It is incredibly sad, says Paola Persson.

She believes that this issue is something for lawmakers to review, since the Prison and Probation Service does not have sufficient tools.

One becomes sad and frustrated that it is not possible to protect victims from a potentially dangerous man.
