Another powerful hurricane is heading towards Florida after Hurricane Helene's passage at the end of September.
Hurricane Milton, which was upgraded to a category five on the five-point scale on Monday evening, is expected to reach the American state on Wednesday.
A hurricane warning has been issued for parts of the Mexican state of Yucatán, and most of Florida's west coast may be affected.
The US National Hurricane Center warns of storm surges that can raise the water level by 1.5 meters along the Yucatán Peninsula and powerful waves along the coast. At the same time, rainfall amounts of 250 millimeters with local showers of up to 380 millimeters are expected in Florida.
Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis says it is now crucial to clean up after Helene before Milton's arrival so that what has been destroyed does not become dangerous projectiles.
We don't have time for bureaucracy and red tape. We have to get it done, says DeSantis.
At least 230 people died in connection with Helene's passage from northern Florida to the Appalachian Mountains.
