Meira Ahmemulic receives Bildkonstnärsfonden's large grant of 300,000 kronor. A message the artist herself was very surprised about.
"When I received the message that I had received the grant, I thought it was a misunderstanding, that there must have been a mistake somewhere... I was away with my mom and shared the news with her. She thought, of course, like mothers do, that it wasn't the least bit strange", says Meira Ahmemulic in a press release.
Meira Ahmemulic was born in 1974 and lives in Gothenburg. Bildkonstnärsfonden describes her as "pioneering" and "an artist who doesn't shy away from the complex". In her art, she uses text, sound, video, sculpture, and new digital technologies, and themes such as language, class, work, Swedishness, and migration.
Right now, you can see her work in an exhibition at Havremagasinet in Boden. The grant will be awarded on November 27 at the Gothenburg Art Museum.
