The red-green leadership in the Västra Götaland Region is increasing the annual support to the Gothenburg Opera by 16 million kronor. In a press release, the reason is stated to be, among other things, the savings requirement that the opera is facing.
"This reinforcement gives us a more stable foundation to stand on, and we can continue to develop the artistic activities", says the opera's chairman Maria Brauer (S) in the press release.
It was last winter that it became clear that the Gothenburg Opera had to save 50 million kronor during the period 2024-2027. In the spring, 25 people were notified as a consequence of the savings requirement.
The background is the external situation with high inflation, as well as a consequence of the Gothenburg Opera's grant not being increased at the same rate as the costs for salaries and property have increased.
Corrected: In an earlier version, Maria Brauer was given the wrong title. The correct title is that she is the chairman.
