In July 2023, Mohamed and Layth disappeared from their placements at HVB and family homes in Nyköping.
Shortly after the report was filed, Mohamed was found murdered in a forest in Landfjärden outside Nynäshamn. On August 18, Layth was also found murdered, in the forest in Upplands-Bro.
According to the investigation, Mohamed was murdered around midnight between July 25 and 26.
The investigation has shown that Mohamed died as a result of repeated stab wounds to the body, says prosecutor Hanna Cardell at a press conference on Wednesday.
Severe violence to the head was also a contributing cause of death, according to the prosecutor.
On July 27, Layth traveled from Nyköping to Stockholm. The investigation shows that he was murdered late that same evening. He was likely strangled to death.
Held for ten hours
The 14-year-olds were themselves involved in murder plans on behalf of Foxtrot before they were murdered, according to the prosecutor. But before the plans could be carried out, the gang turned against the boys, accusing them of having gotten rid of two pistols.
That's why the boys were held captive, "interrogated" and then killed one by one, according to the prosecutors. Films of the murders are believed to have been spread afterwards, but the police have not been able to obtain the material.
The abuse appears to have been prolonged.
As for Mohammed, we can establish that he was held in this apartment for at least ten hours. As for Layth, we can't know exactly, but it was at least several hours, says Hanna Cardell.
Convicted in December
A 31-year-old is suspected of having killed both boys. An 18-year-old is also charged with the murder of Layth.
The 31-year-old was convicted just before Christmas for aggravated drug offenses linked to the Foxtrot network, along with a 26-year-old man who is charged with accessory to murder for Mohamed's murder.
A 32-year-old man, also with Foxtrot connections, instigated the murders according to the indictment. He was abroad at the time and directed the individuals in Sweden via chats. In the chats, there are other participants that the police have not been able to identify.
We can see that there are several people who have been involved. So he didn't single-handedly orchestrate the whole thing, says Cardell.
It's through the chats that the investigators have come up with the motive.
It's basically stated that two pistols are missing and that the two boys are somehow involved, says she.
The comprehensive indictment includes murder, instigation of murder, accessory to murder, kidnapping, aggravated grave desecration, preparation for murder, incitement to murder, and accessory to preparation for murder.
A total of 18 people are charged with various forms of involvement. Three of them are women. Charges are also brought against three people who were not of legal age.
Five people are charged with involvement in Mohamed's murder and eight with involvement in Layth's murder.
Several people are also charged with involvement in the murder plans that the murdered 14-year-olds are believed to have been involved in. The plans are said to have been directed against several individuals within the criminal Dalen network.
A 31-year-old man with connections to the Foxtrot network is suspected of having carried out both murders. A 32-year-old man is charged with instigating the murders via encrypted chats.
The evidence consists of many different parts, including a large amount of material from the chats. There is also technical evidence in the form of DNA and fingerprints, as well as material from surveillance cameras.
