Spårvägsmuseet is Stockholm’s museum of local public transport, with design, technology and cultural history at its centre. It covers Stockholm’s local traffic from past to future and shows how the city’s rail-based transport developed and changed over time. Wikidata gives 1922 as the year it opened.
Visitors can sit in a horse bus dating from 1891, ride a children’s miniature underground train, and try the work of a ticket barrier attendant. The examples range from an older vehicle to a children’s ride and a transport job. The museum’s subject is local transit in Stockholm, including the changes in its rail-based transport over time.
Since May 2022, the museum has been in new premises in Hjorthagen. Visit Stockholm says the easiest way to reach it is to take the metro to Ropsten. Its information does not state admission prices or opening hours, and gives no seasonal schedule or suggested visit length.

All in StockholmTalk: Södra Hagalund - The District of the Future
to 19:00 · Spårvägsmuseet
Where today there is a busy road, in a few years there will be a square, housing and a metro station 45 meters underground. Emelie Grind and Alexander Fagerlund from the City of Solna describe how Södra Hagalund is emerging as an entirely new district as the metro is extended to Arenastaden. They bring you behind the visualizations: how a city is planned around a metro station before it even exists. Talk, 1 hour. At Spårvägsmuseet, tickets required.
Talk: Buttons, Collars & Jackets
to 19:00 · Spårvägsmuseet
A tram conductor around 1900 stood ramrod straight in a strict, dark uniform with shiny buttons and a high collar. Today you are greeted by a customer host in soft, functional workwear. In this talk we travel through the history of uniforms alongside the history of fashion: how hemlines, cuts, colors and materials have reflected the ideals of their time, from horse-drawn trams to today. In collaboration with the museum's Friends association. Talk, 1 hour. At Spårvägsmuseet, tickets required.
Talk: Cathedrals of the Underground
to 19:00 · Spårvägsmuseet
At the age of 77, Siri Derkert stood on high scaffolding in Östermalmstorg metro station as her sketches were sandblasted into the concrete: 145 metres of women who fought for peace, freedom and the right to vote. Derkert was one of those who championed the idea that stations could be "cathedrals underground". Her granddaughter Tora Derkert talks about her grandmother's life and art, and the woman behind the works. Talk, 1 hour. At Spårvägsmuseet, tickets required.
Murder mystery game "Hidden Tracks"
to 20:30 · Spårvägsmuseet
A hijacked metro train. A missing driver. A station that shouldn't exist. The train rushes past T-Centralen without stopping, heading for Kymlinge, the ghost station that never opened. In the mystery game Hidden Tracks, you and your team step into the role of Stockholm's most skilled metro police officers. Follow the clues and solve the mystery before time runs out. Approx. 1.5 hours, for an adult audience. Max. 30 participants, book in advance. At Spårvägsmuseet.
Workshop: Capture the City
to 21:00 · Spårvägsmuseet
A rusty utility box, a forgotten street drain, an old tram: for urban sketchers, everything deserves to be immortalized. Nina Johansson teaches you the basics of urban sketching, the art of capturing the city one quick sketch at a time. After a short introduction, the participants draw in the museum's exhibitions with the metro as our theme, and finish by adding color to the sketches together. No drawing experience needed. At Spårvägsmuseet, tickets required.
Talk: New Modes of Transport - E-scooters, Car Sharing and Self-Driving Taxis
to 19:00 · Spårvägsmuseet
A row of e-scooters on the pavement, a car-sharing app you forgot you had, and cars that drive themselves. The way we get around the city is constantly changing, but what will become everyday life and what is just a passing trend? This talk looks at how e-scooters, bicycles and car sharing already work with public transport, and what self-driving technology could mean in the long run, with examples from Stockholm and around the world. Talk, 1 hour. At Spårvägsmuseet, tickets required.
