A monthly payment from Försäkringskassan for every child under 16 who lives in Sweden. You do not need to apply: it starts automatically when the child is born here or is registered after moving here, as long as you and the child are insured in Sweden.

For children born on or after 1 March 2014 the allowance is split equally between two parents with joint custody unless they ask for another split; with sole custody it all goes to that parent. Families with two or more children also get a large family supplement.

If a parent lives, works or draws a pension in another EU/EEA country, EU rules may change who pays.
