preschool
Preschool for children from the age of one until they start preschool class, the year they turn six. It is run by municipalities and independent providers, follows a national curriculum, and is meant to be both care and learning.
You apply to your municipality, usually online, and the municipality must offer a place within a set time after you ask for one. Fees are capped and depend on household income; in the year a child turns three, some free hours per week are also offered.
Many parents apply as soon as they know when they will need a place, since popular preschools fill up.
