Your live-in partner when you are not married. In Sweden being sambo is a recognised status: Swedish law has rules on what happens to a shared home and household goods bought for it if a sambo couple separates or one partner dies.

The status matters in many places. Migrationsverket can grant a residence permit to live with a sambo, Försäkringskassan and other agencies ask about it, and forms often have a box for it.

Being sambo is not the same as being married. Sambos do not inherit from each other automatically, so couples who want that protection often make a will or a cohabitation agreement (samboavtal).
