China is ready to deepen cooperation with African countries in industry, agriculture, infrastructure, trade, and investments, says Xi during the ongoing summit within the cooperation organization Focac (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation).
Xi promises to create "at least one million jobs for Africa".
Leaders from over 50 African countries are present in Beijing, as well as UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The cooperation between China and the African continent can "drive the revolution in renewable energy", claims Guterres during the meeting.
China is Africa's largest trading partner and has made large investments in much-needed infrastructure. At the same time, Beijing has been accused of extensive exploitation of Africa's natural resources, such as copper, gold, lithium, and rare earth metals.
Several African countries are burdened by enormous debts to China due to billion-dollar loans.
