The cold is taking hold of the country, notes the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), which sees a risk of troublesome weather later in the week. Cold air is moving in over southern Sweden on Sunday and snowstorms are expected in Norrland.

A deep low-pressure system brings snowstorms to several parts of Norrland on Sunday.

In Härjedalen and Jämtland, it will be windy with strong westerly winds on Kalfjället, and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow warning for wind in combination with snowfall in the area. The warning applies from lunchtime to 7 pm on Sunday evening.

"At the same time, colder air is advancing south over the country, resulting in generally slightly lower temperatures compared to yesterday," writes meteorologist Christopher Greenland in a comment on SMHI's website.

At the beginning of next week, the cold will take hold, and minus degrees are expected at night in a large part of the country. Even during the day, temperatures may remain below zero in Norrland and northwestern Svealand.

From Wednesday, a comprehensive low-pressure system will move northeast over Sweden. This could mean snow.

"There is a risk of severe weather as it may involve snowfall in combination with windy weather, even in southern Sweden," writes Christopher Greenland, urging residents to follow weather forecasts.

During Thursday and Friday, the bad weather is expected to move up towards northern Sweden.
