The collaboration concerned an agreement between vehicle manufacturers not to pay dismantling companies extra for processing end-of-life vehicles, as the business was considered sufficiently profitable in itself, according to a press release.
It also concerned not disclosing in their marketing how much of an end-of-life vehicle can be recycled, in order to reduce consumers' pressure on companies to go further than what the law requires.
Among the vehicle manufacturers are, among others, Swedish-Chinese Volvo Cars, Volkswagen, BMW, and Toyota.
All vehicle manufacturers fined will have their fines reduced since they have acknowledged their participation in the cartel, which lasted for over 15 years.
Mercedes-Benz was also part of the cartel, but avoids fines since the company reported its existence to the EU and subsequently cooperated in the investigation.
