All traffic to and from the airport in Catania on eastern Sicily has been stopped due to an eruption from the volcano Etna.
The volcano, which is one of the world's most active, has been seen spewing out lava and ash in recent days.
"Due to the eruption and ash emissions, a decision has been made to interrupt air traffic", writes the airport operator on X and urges passengers to contact their airline for information.
The airport in Catania was also closed earlier this month due to an ash cloud that obscured visibility.
