The uprising started on Saturday afternoon and not until Sunday morning could regional security forces, together with the military, get into the prison in the state of Veracruz and stop the uprising.
According to local media, the prisoners wanted the authorities to guarantee their safety, since they felt threatened by fellow prisoners who were accused of belonging to a violent criminal group.
Three prisoners have now been moved to another prison in the same state.
