Among the 600 signatories to the appeal are former intelligence chiefs. They want the US President Donald Trump to increase the pressure on the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"It is our professional assessment that Hamas no longer poses any threat to Israel", they write in the appeal.
