After suspicions of gross fraud and systematic cheating, Västerås city has had enough and terminates the agreement with the care company Attendo. Now, 500 people lose their jobs and nearly 1,000 users lose their home care.

Västerås city has also filed a police report and is demanding compensation from Attendo. Last week, the police raided several of the company's premises and seized, among other things, mobile phones and computers.

A preliminary investigation has been initiated and several people are suspected of gross fraud, writes the newspaper Municipal Workers.

In parallel, an investigation is underway at the municipality regarding employees suspected of systematically and over time falsifying reports on time spent with clients and travel time between clients.

They have taken money they are not entitled to, and then we must take a stand, says the chairman of the elderly committee, Amanda Grönlund (KD), to the newspaper.

According to Grönlund, the staff have been under great pressure,

They have, for example, been told not to register more than five minutes of travel time between clients, and if they did, they would receive a salary deduction, she explains.

The Municipal Workers' Union in Västerås has also received indications that Attendo has misbehaved – among other things, members have contacted the union when their travel time between clients was deducted as compensation.
