The notification was made in July to the Health and Care Inspectorate (Ivo). It concerns nine cases of serious healthcare injuries, or the risk of such.
A male doctor had a key role in the criticized operations.
Other staff members were also involved. However, no one stopped the interventions. Unhealthy hierarchies at the hospital are pointed out as an explanation.
With sorrow, I note that it has affected these women in a way that is life-determining for several of them. I can only apologize on behalf of the hospital, says chief physician Christer Printz at Skaraborgs Hospital to DN.
The examined doctor made incorrect diagnoses of the connective tissue disease Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). The women were systematically advised to have their uterus, and sometimes also their ovaries, removed.
The doctor has now left the hospital. Ivo is investigating whether he should be allowed to keep his medical license.
