The USA has given the green light to the arms deal with Taiwan, worth $385 million, equivalent to over four billion Swedish kronor.
The deal includes, among other things, spare parts for the F-16 fighter jet and radar systems. Deliveries are expected to begin next year, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
The arms will help maintain Taiwan's air force combat readiness and strengthen air defense, according to a statement from Taiwan's defense minister, who thanked the USA.
The USA has no official diplomatic relations with Taipei, but is Taiwan's most important arms supplier. China, which claims Taiwan, has long opposed the USA's arms deals with the country.
