Boeing acknowledges fraud after two deadly plane crashes, announces the US Department of Justice.
Federal prosecutors gave Boeing the option to enter into a settlement agreement and pay fines as part of its punishment, or to stand trial.
The aircraft giant has been accused by prosecutors of deceiving American regulatory authorities, following an earlier settlement that was reached after 346 people died in two plane crashes in 2018 and 2019 in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
The latest settlement involves fines for Boeing of an additional 243.6 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 1.7 billion kronor.
The same amount was paid by the aircraft giant in the agreement concluded with the Department of Justice in 2021, which protected Boeing from being prosecuted for the crashes as long as the company, among other things, followed certain regulations.
About a month ago, the department announced that Boeing had breached the agreement and could therefore be prosecuted for the charges brought forward three years ago.
