The Board for the Assessment of Misconduct in Research (Npof) initiated an investigation following several reports from a science journalist.

The researchers are active in the field of neuroscience.

Npof recently established over 100 cases of forgery in a number of scientific publications.

It involves, among other things, images that do not show what they claim to show. Diagrams and tables also show something other than what they are claimed to show in several cases, writes Läkartidningen.

One of the researchers is listed as co-author of all the publications reviewed. This researcher and another researcher are deemed to have acted intentionally. Npof writes, among other things, that the two have shown indifference to the consequences of their actions.

The other researchers are deemed to have acted grossly negligently.

The researchers deny the allegations and Npof's decision has been appealed to the administrative court by some of them, writes Upsala Nya Tidning.
