Many will die when the aid runs out, says Tom Fletcher, who is the head of the UN's humanitarian aid organization Ocha.

He estimates that around 300 million people, likely more, are in direct need of humanitarian support.

The pace and scope of the cuts to this support mean a seismic shock to the operation, Fletcher said at a press conference on Wednesday.

He indirectly criticized the American President Donald Trump's decision to cut 83 percent of the US's aid efforts and essentially shut down the aid agency USAID.

We have relied too much on the US's support, he stated bluntly.

Earlier calculations from the UN have shown a need for $47.4 billion in aid for 2025, equivalent to around 478 billion kronor – and that would be enough for around 190 million in need.
