The Ministry of Defence, which refers to sources, writes in a post on the messaging service Telegram that Thailand on Sunday urged its residents in the Thai border province of Surin to leave the area by tonight, local time.

"The same sources also confirm that the Thai military plans to launch attacks along the border", the ministry writes. "These attacks are expected to begin shortly", the post continues.

Thailand accused Cambodia on Wednesday of once again violating the ceasefire that the countries had agreed on, by carrying out an attack at the border.

In late July, the two countries were involved in a border conflict that during five days of intense fighting claimed at least 35 lives. On July 28, the countries agreed on a ceasefire.

Isolated violent incidents have occurred over the past 15 years, but the recent clashes are the bloodiest in over a decade. This year, the relationship between the countries has deteriorated significantly since May, when a Cambodian soldier was shot dead at the border.
