People in northern Gaza Strip, who are under Israeli siege, are struggling to stay alive. This is stated by the UN's disaster relief organization, Ocha, in a new report which notes that civilians in the area have not received any significant help in over 40 days.
According to the report, all UN relief efforts during the period have either been denied or hindered. Of the 31 planned efforts, 27 were rejected, while four encountered strong obstacles that prevented them from being completed.
At the same time, bakeries and kitchens have been closed, nutritional support has been withdrawn, and water and sanitation facilities lack fuel, writes Ocha.
The alarm comes after the UN-affiliated expert panel, the Famine Review Committee (FRC), warned earlier in November that the threshold for famine in Gaza "may already have been crossed, but if not, will be crossed in the near future".
Hunger is also increasing in central and southern Gaza Strip, writes Ocha in its report.
