In a letter sent to the government, the UN's special rapporteur for the Aarhus Convention, Michel Forst, writes that the woman appears to have been subjected to "punishment, persecution, and harassment" due to her climate engagement.

Minister for Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bohlin (The Moderate Party), in particular, receives criticism for his public statements made in connection with the incident.

"At this time of climate crisis, I am seriously concerned that the government has assessed her participation in peaceful environmental protests as a threat to national security", writes Forst.

It was the magazine Fokus that published an article on how a climate activist got a security-classified job at the agency. The woman was immediately shut out of her job and her work computer and mobile phone were seized.

The government has informed the UN that legal proceedings limit its ability to respond.
