Two-meter-long exotic snake found on bike path

A resident of Karlsholmsbruk in Tierp Municipality got unexpected company on the midnight stroll. Shortly after midnight, the man caught sight of a two-meter-long snake that came slithering along the road – a snake that didn't seem to belong in the Uppland forests.

He estimated that it could be a brown-spotted, heavy and approximately two-meter-long boa constrictor, and fortunately, he had some experience with snakes, so he caught it and contacted us, says Daniel Winge, commander at Police Region Mitt.

The snake is now in police custody, awaiting a presumed owner to get in touch.

We have transported it further to the police station in Uppsala, because we didn't dare lock it in here, since there was a risk that it might escape. I don't know how they've solved it now or exactly how it's locked in, but hopefully it won't get out, says Daniel Winge.

Normally, we would contact the Skansen Aquarium, but it's difficult this early, so the snake will have to wait a little, says Daniel Winge.
