A suspected shooting occurred in the middle of central Stockholm during the night leading up to Sunday. Two people were detained but were released during the day, the police report.

The clock was just before 03 when several people alerted the police after hearing what they perceived as gunfire.

According to the police, they have made findings that suggest shots were fired at the scene. In pictures, it can be seen how they are examining a weapon-like object lying on the ground.

Two people were detained during the night in connection with the scene after displaying "deviant behavior", but were released during the day.

No one is currently in custody, the police report.

According to information obtained by Aftonbladet, one of the individuals is a 13-year-old boy. Something that the police neither confirm nor deny.

I can only say that they are two males, says police spokesperson Rebecca Landberg.

Investigating attempted murder

The investigation is now led by the prosecutor with the crime classification of attempted murder and aggravated weapons offense.

The suspected shooting occurred outdoors at the intersection of Mäster Samuelsgatan and Regeringsgatan in Stockholm city. No injured person has been found.

The police are starting to get a picture of the actual sequence of events but cannot go into details due to the secrecy of the preliminary investigation.

The area is heavily surveilled by cameras and the police are collecting all surveillance footage that may have captured the event.

Tunnel was blocked off

The area was blocked off and during the night, several streets and the adjacent Klaratunneln were closed to traffic. A large number of people and vehicles moving in the area were controlled.

Just after 07, the police announced that the technical investigation was completed and all traffic was released again.
