Staff are warning us that an escape is underway. Two men have escaped with the help of one or more people on the outside, says police spokesperson Filip Annas.
The vehicle, a telescopic loader, had been stolen from a company in the vicinity, reports duty investigation officer Joakim Ekstrand to SVT News Helsingborg.
This is not the first time people have escaped from the detention center in Åstorp.
It's important to understand that a detention center cannot be compared to a facility within the Prison and Probation Service, it's more comparable to a locked accommodation, says section chief Maria Lindgren at the Migration Agency's southern region.
In this case, a fence was forced to reach the window. Now, concrete blocks will be placed to prevent similar escapes.
There are also plans to build a stronger fence with built-in security technology, but it has been delayed due to an upcoming expansion of the detention center in Åstorp.
