Twelve lynxes have been shot so far during protective hunting in Jämtland County, an unusually high number within a month.
The protective hunting has been permitted with regard to the reindeer industry. In some cases, groups of around 15 reindeer have been killed by lynxes during the first month of the year, reports P4 Radio Jämtland.
The number of lynxes shot during protective hunting will likely affect the allocation in the later license hunting. Last year's license hunting meant that 143 lynxes across the country were allowed to be shot. In total, according to Rovbase, just over 200 lynxes were shot last year in license quota and protective hunting.
There are approximately 1,300 lynxes in the country, according to the latest inventory.
