The 58-year-old man suspected of attempted murder of US ex-president Donald Trump has written a letter indicating murder plans. This is stated by the Justice Department in a submission filed with a court in Florida on Monday.
"This was an attempt to murder Donald Trump, but I failed you. I tried my best", the letter reads, addressed to "Dear World". Furthermore, the letter writer has promised $150,000 to whoever "finishes the job".
The document from the 58-year-old was found in a box that the suspect had handed over to a third person several months ago. The box also contained ammunition, tools, a metal pipe, and a phone, as well as several letters. The box was not opened by the owner until after the suspect had been arrested, according to the Justice Department.
In the suspect's belongings, investigators found a handwritten note with information about where Trump would appear.
The suspect was arrested after quickly leaving the golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump was playing a round. There, the Secret Service had discovered a rifle barrel sticking out through the fence of the golf course.
The US Justice Department wants the suspect to remain in custody.
