According to the industry organization's e-commerce indicator, the turnover during the month was 10.9 billion kronor, a decrease of 6 percent compared to January last year.
Slightly more people shopped online, 67 percent compared to 66 percent last year, but the sums were lower. It is the first time the turnover in e-commerce has decreased since July 2024.
"That e-commerce is starting the year weak is a clear signal that many actors still have it tough. In short, we see how consumers' purchasing power has not yet recovered. The economic uncertainty affects the entire trade, and e-commerce is unfortunately no exception", says Per Ljungberg, innovation manager at Svensk Handel, in a press release.
