The European Commission's spokesperson for trade says in a statement that the EU and the US will continue to cooperate to achieve a joint final document, in accordance with an agreement reached on 27 July between the Commission's President Ursula von der Leyen and the US President Donald Trump regarding import duties.

"With these goals in mind, the Commission will take the necessary measures to suspend the EU's countermeasures against the US, which would have entered into force on 7 August, for six months."

The EU approved in July countermeasures against the US's duties worth over 1,000 billion kronor that could be imposed if no agreement had been reached.

Despite the fact that a customs agreement between the EU and the US has been concluded, a number of unresolved issues remain, including the issue of duties on medicines, where the EU and the US have not yet reached any agreement.
