Last weekend, Almgren set a new Swedish record for 3,000 meters during the Diamond League competition in Shanghai.
When the competition series continued a week later in Xiamen, 5,000 meters awaited the Swede. It didn't go according to plan.
"Rookie mistake after the last race. It was my first big effort this season. I went a little too hard with the training after that," Almgren said.
The 31-year-old is not injured and does not seem particularly worried about the future.
"If I get a few days of recovery it will feel okay, but today my body wasn't working," Almgren said.
