Sweden Captain Ludvig Håkanson to Miss Crucial World Cup Qualifiers With Foot Injury

The Swedish basketball team will have to do without captain Ludvig Håkanson in the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and France. The key player injured his foot more than two weeks ago, he tells Aftonbladet. “It sucks,” Håkanson says.

The injury occurred during a match, and he has been wearing a boot ever since.

“I jumped up and landed on someone else's foot. I'm on crutches and have been wearing a boot ever since. I'm not allowed to put any weight on my foot right now,” the 30-year-old tells the newspaper.

Håkanson has been told that he will be out for six weeks if all goes well.

“So I'll be back in early December. It could be sooner, but I'll miss the internationals unless a miracle happens.”

Sweden will meet Hungary at Avicii Arena on November 27. Three days later, Sweden will face France away. The World Cup qualifiers will then conclude in February with a home match against Finland and an away match against Hungary.

Ahead of the final four matches, France have seven wins, Finland five, Sweden, Hungary and Slovenia four each, and Estonia three. The three best teams will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar in August and September next year.
