Tottenham's Yves Bissouma was attacked with tear gas outside his hotel in Cannes, France, where he was on holiday with his wife. A police source told AFP.
The Premier League player had a watch worth 300,000 euros, around 3.4 million kronor, stolen in the robbery.
It was when Bissouma returned to the hotel early on Sunday morning with his wife that two men in hoods ran up.
The couple tried to get inside to seek shelter, but the door was locked. Then Bissouma was attacked with tear gas by the two individuals, who stole the watch from his wrist before leaving the scene.
Bissouma's lawyer will not comment on the ongoing police investigation.
